Since 1985, the students of USM Mathematical Sciences Society and their advisors have initiated the Penang State Mathematics Quiz as one of its annual activities carried out (with the approval from the Penang Education Ministry) to cultivate secondary school students' interest in Mathematics, as well as nurture and expose them to naturally occurring daily mathematical problems (in accordance with the school syllabus). The search for these types of mathematical solutions requires creativity and critical thinking, and will, in turn, produce a well-rounded and solution-oriented student.
